Our Trust of Schools

Alumni

“The teachers' level of motivation and feedback they give across to students is definitely what helped me achieve the grades I got. This of course, has enabled me to learn about topics in a greater depth for my future career.” - Cranbrook Alumni 2021 and future Astronaut.

Cranbrook now has three years worth of Alumni and it has been exciting to see school leavers keep in touch and share some of their reflections on studying here. If you are an alumni and would like to stay in touch, please complete the form below or email Mrs Jenkins

What are our Alumni up to now?

As we are now three years along, we have been in contact with all those who left contact details at the end of year 11 and asked them to share what they are up to now. Our 2020 leavers are now at the age where they are off to University, and we have heard about some of the courses they are now studying such as degrees in Music Performance and Radiology. Our 2021 and 2022 leavers are currently taking A Levels in subjects such as Biology, Economics, Sociology, Maths, Further Maths, Film, Psychology and English Literature. We also have leavers who are currently studying vocational courses such as Hospitality and Catering and Business Apprenticeships. The wide range of courses they have gone on to showcases the hard work that they put in whilst in year 11 and the importance of high quality careers advice.

What advice do our Alumni have for current year 11’s?

Some of the Alumni who got back in touch shared some golden nuggets of advice for our current year 11’s going into their GCSE’s. Some top quotes are:

“Enjoy your subjects and identify the skills you are developing in each one. Academics become significantly more applicable to life outside of an institution when you can recognise what it is you have developed.”

“Starting revision is always the hardest part I found, once you get past that first step it’s a relief. Take care, Quizlet and past papers are great for revision and I am a terrible reviser!”

“It’s good to feel prepared but don’t over prepare at the cost of your mental health, look after yourself, you can only do your best.”

“Time is of the essence create a life/work balance focus on the bigger picture and your goals. you will not always be motivated to revise however you must be disciplined too.”

“Start studying early - don't cram”

“Don't panic, I know it seems scary but it's going to be okay and work at your best, that's all we can expect from you.”

“Stay as positive as possible. Try your best in school and revise as much as you can but don’t overwork/overwhelm yourself.”

What was the best thing about being a pupil at Cranbrook?

We also asked the Alumni who got in touch what the best thing about taking GCSEs here was. Here are some of the wonderful responses we received:

“The best part about Cranbrook was how the teachers put in the extra effort with additional revision sessions in the lead up to exams and how the school offered support in deciding what to do after leaving (such as courses, apprenticeships, A-levels etc).”

“Despite being a small school at the time, Cranbrook created a family-like community within its year groups, where pupils helped each other to grow and thrive.”

“Cranbrook nurtured my inspiration for subjects I was interested in and gave me the opportunities to be able to pursue them further.”

“The grades that I got were really helpful to get on my course/courses. This is because the teachers really build a close bond with students which made me want to learn.”

“ Cranbrook developed me in entrepreneurial ship skills further, developed my Maths/English and allowed me to create long lasting friendships.”

“The teachers level of motivation and feedback they give across to students is definitely what helped me achieve the grades I got. This of course, has enabled me to learn about topics in a greater depth for my future career.”

“ The teachers are so supportive and helpful. they really helped me get back on track with my learning and figure out who I am.”
