Intent

The intent of our careers curriculum at the Cranbrook Education Campus is to provide a stable careers programme where all students are provided with the opportunity to prepare for their transition into the evolutionary world of work. We intend to raise their aspirations, improve social mobility, develop 8 employability skills and enhance knowledge of Labour Market Information whilst providing them with the access to all career pathways enabling them to succeed. Students will experience a range of encounters tailored to their individual needs and circumstances which will include encounters of workplaces, and employers, an insight into further and higher education establishments and opportunities for personal guidance. Cranbrook Education Campus has a statutory duty to adhere to the Careers Strategy and the Statutory Guidance published in August 2022 and has achieved 100% in the eight Gatsby Benchmarks since 2021.

The 8 Gatsby benchmarks of good career guidance are as follows:

1. A stable careers programme

2. Learning from career and labour market information

3. Addressing the needs of each pupil

4. Linking curriculum learning to careers

5. Encounters with employers and employees

6. Experiences of workplaces

7. Encounters with further and higher education

8. Personal guidance

Impact

We will gauge the impact of our careers provision by analysing destination data to see whether we have been able to support an increasing number of pupils onto level 3 courses. We will also continue to aim for 0% NEET outcomes. One of the main areas of focus this year is to engage with our ever-increasing alumni now that we have 3 years of school leavers. More details on how we have started to engage with our alumni can be found on the alumni page.

We work in conjunction with the  Devon, Plymouth and Torbay Careers Hub to regularly review our careers provision and use Compass + to both record and track progress that we have made.  Pupils and parents are able to ask for a printout of all their careers activities at any point during their time at school. Mrs Jenkins will be able to support with this. This enables us to see who has received what careers support on their 5-year journey in Secondary. We are continually looking to improve our careers provision, details of which have been laid out in our strategic careers plan.  This document was approved by governors in October 2022. Our careers provision will be reviewed in September 2023 and annually thereafter in preparation to share with Governors in the October of that academic year.

We are also beginning to record the impact of our careers provision through regular pupil and parent surveys. The results of these give us the opportunity to explore the usefulness of specific encounters and how we can make this experience better.

We are very proud to say that for the third year running we have hit all the careers provision criteria and continue to be a 100% gatsby benchmark school. This puts us top out of 154 schools in the region.
